Infertility is defined as a year of unprotected intercourse without conception, or six months if the woman is over 35. The investigation is not complicated, but it must be complete: ovulation, tubal patency, uterine cavity, ovarian reserve and the male partner.

Step by step

1. History and examination

   A full hour reviewing cycle history, previous treatment, surgery and every report you already hold.

2. Ovulation and reserve

   Day-2 hormone profile, AMH, antral follicle count and thyroid and prolactin levels.

3. Tubes and uterus

   HSG or saline sonography, with laparoscopy and hysteroscopy where the picture demands it.

4. Male assessment and plan

   Semen analysis, then a written plan with the options that genuinely apply to you.
