IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) in Delhi
Washed, concentrated sperm is placed directly into the uterus at the moment of ovulation.
What IUI involves
IUI shortens the distance sperm have to travel and times the attempt precisely. The semen sample is washed in the laboratory to concentrate the most motile sperm, then placed into the uterine cavity through a fine catheter at the point of ovulation. It takes a few minutes and needs no anaesthesia.
It only works when at least one fallopian tube is open and the sperm count is reasonable, which is why we confirm both before recommending it. Done properly it is a genuine option that costs a fraction of IVF, and we would rather you try it first when your reports support it.
Who this is for
- Mild male factor with adequate total motile count
- Unexplained infertility of less than two years in women under 35
- Cervical factor, or difficulty with intercourse timing
- Donor sperm treatment, and mild ovulatory disorders
Not everything on this list means you need this treatment. The workup comes first, and the recommendation follows from what it shows — not from what was booked before you arrived.
Step by step
Tube and sperm assessment
An HSG or laparoscopy confirms at least one open tube, and a semen analysis confirms the count is workable.
Ovulation induction
Tablets or low-dose injections to grow one or two follicles, monitored by scan.
Trigger injection
Given when the lead follicle reaches maturity, timing ovulation to within a few hours.
Insemination
The washed sample is placed in the uterus 36 hours later. You rest for fifteen minutes and go home.
Your results, in writing
Whatever the outcome of IUI, you leave each stage with the findings written down — what was done, what was found, what it means, and what the options are from here. Reports are issued the same day wherever the laboratory allows it.
What is different about having this done here
Cycle monitoring by scan, not by calendar guesswork
Same-day sperm preparation in our own andrology lab
Clear stopping rule — we move on after three or four properly timed cycles
Cost per cycle is a small fraction of IVF
Treated by the consultant, not by a rotating team
Dr. Tiwari performs the scans, the procedure and the follow-up herself, and looks after any pregnancy that results. Over a long treatment course that continuity is the difference between being known and being processed.
- MBBS, MS (Obstetrics & Gynaecology), FNB (Reproductive Medicine)
- Over ten years in reproductive medicine and gynaecological surgery
- Previous treatment records from other centres read in full
- Itemised costs given in writing before anything begins

Areas we see patients from
Both clinics are in South Delhi. Patients travelling from further out have appointments grouped to cut down the number of trips.
Questions about IUI
What is the success rate per IUI cycle?
Around 10–15% per cycle in women under 35 with good sperm parameters. Most pregnancies that happen with IUI happen within the first three or four cycles, which is why we do not continue indefinitely.
How many cycles should I try?
Three, sometimes four. If those fail, the probability per cycle does not improve and the money is better spent on IVF.
Does IUI hurt?
Most women describe it as similar to a smear test — a few seconds of cramping at most.
Talk it through before you commit
Consultations run for a full hour. Bring any previous reports — they are reviewed properly, not repeated.
